FAQ

Questions about this ranking

Almost identically. The United States employee keeps $26,285 (effective rate 12.38%) and the UK employee keeps $26,277 (12.41%) — a difference of $8 a year. At $100,000 the same two systems are more than $7,000 apart, so the comparison at one salary says little about the comparison at another.
Antigua and Barbuda charges no income tax, but its employee contributions take a larger share of a smaller salary: $3,072 of a $30,000 salary, an effective rate of 10.24%, against 5.52% at $100,000. Floors and caps inside contribution systems often bite hardest at lower pay, which is why a zero income tax does not always mean the lightest deduction at every level.
Because the contributions are not low. At $30,000, Cyprus charges $1,101 of income tax but $3,435 of employee contributions (11.45% of gross pay), for a total effective rate of 15.12%. The ranking counts both lines, so a low tax rate cannot hide a heavy contribution.
Bermuda, at $29,925: its employee payroll tax is $75 at this salary (0.25%). Bahrain follows, keeping $29,700 after its 1% contribution, and the Bahamas keeps $28,605. The first country with a conventional income tax in the table is Taiwan, keeping $28,326 in 11th place.
How this ranking was built. Every figure comes from Krynto's own calculator engine run on the US$30,000 salary for the standard case: a single employee, employment income only, standard allowance and standard deductions only, no personal credits or family circumstances. The salary is converted at the currency snapshot of 28 October 2026 (ECB reference rates plus the open.er-api snapshot — a dated snapshot, not live market prices). The full method, including what the model leaves out and why, is on the Methodology page. Estimates only — not tax advice.
