Antigua and Barbuda Income Tax Calculator 2026

Antigua and Barbuda abolished personal income tax in April 2016, so there is no income tax to calculate on a salary at any level. What this page does instead is work out the two contributions that still come off employee pay: Social Security at 7% of insurable earnings and Medical Benefits at 3.5% of gross earnings. Enter a salary in East Caribbean dollars to see both deductions and the resulting take-home pay.

The system

How income tax works in Antigua and Barbuda

The absence of income tax is the whole story on the tax side. Salaries and employment income generally are untaxed, and employees have no income tax filing to complete on their earnings. The calculator therefore applies a rate of 0% to every salary. Anyone comparing Antigua and Barbuda with a taxed country should compare gross salaries, because gross and take-home pay here differ only by the two contributions below.

Social Security, run by the ABSSB, takes 7% of insurable earnings up to EC$6,500 a month, so earnings above EC$78,000 a year attract no further contribution and the largest possible employee payment is EC$5,460 a year. The rate has been stepped up in recent years and some guides still print 6%, so treat the exact rate as approximate. Medical Benefits takes 3.5% of gross earnings with no cap for employees aged 16 to 59, dropping to 2.5% from age 60 to 69 and nothing from age 70. An Education Levy is described by some sources as a 1% employee charge, but reports conflict over who actually pays it, so it is left out.

What this calculator leaves out

  • Personal income tax was abolished in April 2016, so employment income is not taxed at any level; deductions from pay are social contributions only
  • Employee Social Security is 7% of insurable earnings up to EC$6,500 a month (EC$78,000 a year), per the ISSA country profile and 2026 EOR guidance. The rate has been stepped up in recent years (some guides still show 6%), so treat the exact rate as approximate
  • Medical Benefits is 3.5% of gross earnings for employees aged 16 to 59 (2.5% at ages 60 to 69, nil from 70)
  • An Education Levy is reported by some sources at 1% for employees; reports conflict on whether it falls on employees or employers, so it is not modelled

FAQ

Antigua and Barbuda tax — frequently asked questions

Correct. Personal income tax was abolished in April 2016 and has not been reintroduced. Employment income is untaxed however much you earn, and the only deductions modelled on this page are Social Security and Medical Benefits contributions.
Social Security at 7% applies only to the first EC$78,000 of earnings, so it takes EC$5,460. Medical Benefits at 3.5% applies to the full salary and takes EC$3,500. Total deductions are EC$8,960, leaving take-home pay of EC$91,040, assuming the standard Medical Benefits rate for ages 16 to 59.
The Social Security rate does not change with age in this model, but Medical Benefits does: 3.5% of gross earnings from age 16 to 59, then 2.5% from 60 to 69, and nothing from age 70. The calculator applies the 3.5% rate throughout.
Sources disagree. One lists 1% from the employee and 1% from the employer, another lists 2.5% as employer-only. Because the reporting conflicts, the levy is not modelled, and any small levy that does apply would reduce take-home pay slightly beyond the figures shown.
