Brazil Income Tax Calculator 2026

This calculator works out Brazilian take-home pay for calendar year 2026 using the official Receita Federal annual table, plus employee INSS contributions. One warning belongs up front: a new tax reduction took effect in January 2026 and is not built into the model, so read the note in the questions below before relying on the income tax figure.

The system

How income tax works in Brazil

Brazil withholds income tax (IRPF) monthly, and this page uses the official annual table for 2026, which is the monthly table multiplied by twelve. The first R$29,145.60 a year is exempt. Above that, rates step up through 7.5%, 15% and 22.5% to a top rate of 27.5% on taxable income over R$55,976.16 a year. The whole scale has just four charging bands above the exempt amount.

Social security, the INSS, is the bigger deduction for most employees. It is charged progressively at 7.5%, 9%, 12% and 14% across monthly pay bands, and it stops at a contribution ceiling of R$8,475.55 a month. The most anyone pays is R$988.09 a month, however high the salary goes. Employers pay their own, separate INSS share on top, which never appears on the payslip as an employee deduction.

What this calculator leaves out

  • Annual table (calendar year 2026): the monthly table annualised ×12, matching the official annual table published by Receita Federal.
  • NEW FOR 2026 — NOT MODELLED: Law 15,270/2025 grants a monthly tax reduction from January 2026 that zeroes the tax on monthly taxable income up to R$5,000 and phases out linearly to R$7,350 (reduction = R$978.62 − 0.133145 × monthly taxable income). The engine cannot express an income-dependent credit, so for monthly earnings up to about R$7,350 the income tax shown here is an UPPER BOUND — most earners at or below R$5,000 a month actually pay no income tax in 2026.
  • INSS employee contributions are progressive (7.5% / 9% / 12% / 14% on monthly bands, Portaria MPS/MF 13/2026, annualised ×12) and stop at the contribution ceiling of R$8,475.55 a month — a maximum of R$988.09 a month.
  • In practice the income-tax base is salary minus INSS and R$189.59 per dependant (or an optional simplified monthly discount of R$607.20). This model taxes gross minus the tax-free band only, so the income tax shown is modestly overstated. No dependants are assumed.

FAQ

Brazil tax — frequently asked questions

No, and this matters. Under Law 15,270/2025, from January 2026 a monthly reduction wipes out the income tax entirely on monthly taxable income up to R$5,000, then phases out gradually and disappears at R$7,350 a month. Our engine cannot apply an income-dependent reduction of that shape, so for monthly earnings up to about R$7,350 the income tax shown here is an upper bound. At R$4,000 a month the model shows roughly R$2,694 of tax a year where the real 2026 bill is zero. Above R$7,350 a month the figures stand as calculated.
Each slice of monthly pay is charged at its own rate: 7.5% on the first slice, then 9%, 12% and 14% as pay rises. Contributions stop at the ceiling of R$8,475.55 a month, capping the payment at R$988.09 a month or about R$11,857 a year. This page annualises the official monthly bands, and the INSS total it shows already includes the ceiling.
Two reasons. First, the reduction described above, if you earn under about R$7,350 a month. Second, the real tax base is smaller than the one used here: in practice INSS contributions and R$189.59 per dependant come off your salary before tax is worked out, or you can take a simplified monthly discount of R$607.20 instead. This model taxes gross pay minus the exempt band only, with no dependants, so it modestly overstates the tax at every level.
27.5%. It applies to the slice of annual taxable income above R$55,976.16 under the 2026 annual table. Because the INSS stops at its ceiling, the combined marginal deduction rate actually falls once pay passes about R$8,475.55 a month, an oddity of the Brazilian system that the calculator reproduces.
