Denmark taxes a salary in separate layers, and this calculator folds them into a single combined scale on gross pay so the result stays readable. It combines the 8% labour market contribution (AM-bidrag), bottom tax, the average municipal tax and the 2026 middle, top and top-top state taxes. Because the fold uses average municipal rates and leaves out the employment allowance, the figures are an upper bound, widest at low and middle incomes.

In Danish payroll the first slice taken is the AM-bidrag, 8% of gross pay. The remaining income is then taxed at a bottom tax rate of 12.01% plus your municipal rate, which averages 25.05% in 2026 and ranges from about 23.4% to 26.3% depending on the commune. For 2026 there are three extra state taxes on higher incomes: a middle tax of 7.5% on personal income above DKK 641,200 (after AM-bidrag), a top tax of 7.5% above DKK 777,900, and a top-top tax of 5% above DKK 2,592,700. A tax ceiling caps the combined marginal rate at 60.5% including the AM-bidrag. Everyone gets a personal allowance (personfradrag) of DKK 54,100.
What this calculator leaves out matters at ordinary salaries. Employees normally get an employment allowance of 12.75% of earnings, worth up to DKK 63,300 in 2026, plus a smaller job allowance, and both cut the tax bill in practice. Neither is included here, so the tax shown is higher than a real Danish payslip at low and middle incomes. There are no percentage-based employee social security contributions in Denmark, which is why the contributions column stays empty: the AM-bidrag is a tax, and it is already inside the combined scale. Church tax (about 0.9% for church members) and the small fixed ATP pension contribution are also excluded.
