The system

How income tax works in Kazakhstan

The new Tax Code replaced the flat rate with two bands. The threshold is set at 8,500 MCI, and with the 2026 MCI at KZT 4,325 that is KZT 36,762,500 of annual income; income above it is taxed at 15%. The standard deduction also rose sharply, from 14 MCI to 30 MCI a month, which is KZT 129,750 a month or KZT 1,557,000 a year, and it comes off income before the rate is applied. In law the tax base is salary minus the pension contribution, the health contribution and this deduction. This calculator deducts only the standard deduction, so the tax shown is an upper bound, and the gap grows with salary.

Employees pay two contributions. The mandatory pension contribution (OPV) is 10% of salary, on a base capped at 50 times the minimum wage per month, KZT 51,000,000 a year. The health insurance contribution (VOSMS) is 2%, capped at 20 times the minimum wage per month, KZT 20,400,000 a year. Employer-side charges, such as the 6% social tax and the employer's own health and pension payments, are not employee deductions and are left out.

What this calculator leaves out

  • The new Tax Code in force from 1 January 2026 replaced the old flat 10%: employee income tax is now 10% on annual income up to 8,500 MCI (KZT 36,762,500 at the 2026 MCI of KZT 4,325) and 15% above that threshold.
  • The standard deduction rose from 14 to 30 MCI per month (KZT 129,750/month, KZT 1,557,000/year), modelled as the allowance.
  • In law the tax base is salary minus the pension contribution (10%), the health contribution (2%) and the standard deduction; the engine does not deduct the contributions from the base, so the tax shown is an upper bound, increasingly so at high salaries.
  • Pension contributions are capped at 50 times the minimum wage per month (KZT 4,250,000/month, KZT 51,000,000/year); employee health contributions at 20 times the minimum wage per month (KZT 20,400,000/year). Employer-side charges (social tax 6%, social contributions 5%, employer health 3%, employer pension) are not employee deductions and are excluded.

FAQ

Kazakhstan tax — frequently asked questions

It is in force. The new Tax Code took effect on 1 January 2026 and replaced the old flat 10% rate. Employment income is taxed at 10% up to 8,500 MCI a year and 15% above that. This calculator applies the enacted 2026 rules.
The threshold is 8,500 MCI of annual income. The MCI for 2026 is KZT 4,325, so the 15% rate starts at KZT 36,762,500. Only the income above that amount is taxed at 15%; everything below it, after the standard deduction, stays at 10%.
After the standard deduction of KZT 1,557,000, taxable income is KZT 10,443,000, and at 10% the tax is KZT 1,044,300. Contributions are KZT 1,440,000: pension at 10% is KZT 1,200,000 and health at 2% is KZT 240,000. On a real payslip the tax would be lower, because the contributions also come off the tax base in law.
In law, your pension contribution (10%) and health contribution (2%) are deducted from salary before income tax is worked out, on top of the standard deduction. This calculator deducts only the standard deduction, so it taxes a larger base. The tax shown is therefore an upper bound, and the overstatement grows as the salary rises.
