How income tax works in Armenia

Armenia taxes employment income at a single flat rate of 20%, withheld by the employer each month. Unlike many countries there is no general tax-free allowance for salary, so the 20% applies to the full gross amount. In law, the social payment and stamp duty reduce the income tax base before the 20% is charged. This calculator taxes gross pay, so the income tax shown is an upper bound.

The social (pension) payment works on a monthly formula: 5% of salary up to AMD 500,000 a month, then 10% of salary minus AMD 25,000, capped at AMD 87,500 a month, on a contribution base of at most AMD 1,125,000 a month. The calculator annualises that formula into two slices, 5% up to AMD 6,000,000 a year and 10% on the slice up to AMD 13,500,000. The stamp duty is a fixed fee rather than a percentage: AMD 1,000 a month at salaries up to AMD 1,000,000 and AMD 15,000 a month above that, in force since December 2025. It is approximated here as 0.1% of salary up to a cap, which understates the duty for monthly salaries above AMD 1,000,000, where the real cost is AMD 180,000 a year.

What this calculator leaves out

  • Salaries paid by a tax agent are withheld at a flat 20%; there is no general personal allowance for employment income.
  • The mandatory social (pension) payment for employees is monthly: 5% of gross salary up to AMD 500,000/month; above that, 10% of salary minus AMD 25,000, capped at AMD 87,500/month, with a maximum contribution base of AMD 1,125,000/month. The two model components annualise that formula (5% to AMD 6,000,000 a year, then 10% on the slice up to AMD 13,500,000).
  • Stamp duty (from December 2025: AMD 1,000/month at salaries up to AMD 1,000,000, AMD 15,000/month above) is a fixed fee, not a percentage; it is approximated here as 0.1% capped at AMD 12,000,000 of salary, which understates the duty for monthly salaries above AMD 1,000,000 (real cost AMD 180,000/year).
  • In law, social payments and stamp duty reduce the income tax base; the engine taxes gross pay, so the income tax shown is an upper bound. Pension participation applies to persons born after 1 January 1974.

FAQ

Armenia tax — frequently asked questions

No. Employment income is withheld at a flat 20% with no general personal allowance, so tax applies from the first dram of salary. The only relief in the standard case is that social payments and stamp duty reduce the tax base in law, which this calculator does not model.
It is 5% of gross salary up to AMD 500,000 a month. Above that it is 10% of salary minus AMD 25,000, so at AMD 1,000,000 a month the payment is AMD 75,000. The payment is capped at AMD 87,500 a month and the contribution base stops at AMD 1,125,000 a month. It applies to people born after 1 January 1974.
The stamp duty is a fixed monthly fee: AMD 1,000 at salaries up to AMD 1,000,000 a month and AMD 15,000 above that. A fixed fee cannot be shown exactly as a percentage, so this calculator approximates it at 0.1% of salary up to a cap. Above AMD 1,000,000 a month the approximation shows less than the real AMD 180,000 a year.
In Armenian law the social payment and the stamp duty come off your salary before the 20% income tax is charged. This calculator applies the 20% to gross pay instead, so the income tax it shows is an upper bound. The gap is small at ordinary salaries and grows as the social payment grows.
