Where the rates change in New Zealand

New Zealand taxes from the first dollar, so even the lowest rung (NZ$26,500) pays NZ$4,009, an effective 15.1% once the ACC levy is counted. The steps then come at NZ$53,500 of taxable income (30%) and NZ$78,100 (33%), and the effective rate climbs to 23.4% at NZ$89,000 and 35.6% at the top. The ACC levy itself caps out at NZ$2,741 a year (1.75% of the NZ$156,641 maximum liable earnings), a small part of the tax column at every level.
