Rwanda Income Tax Calculator 2026

Enter a Rwandan salary and this calculator applies the 2026 PAYE bands: nothing on the first RWF 720,000 a year, then 10%, 20% and 30% as pay rises. It also deducts the employee RSSB pension contribution of 6% and the 0.3% maternity leave benefit contribution, both charged without a ceiling.

The system

How income tax works in Rwanda

PAYE is charged monthly in Rwanda, and the annual figures here are the monthly bands multiplied by twelve. The first RWF 60,000 a month (RWF 720,000 a year) is taxed at 0%, the slice up to RWF 100,000 a month at 10%, the slice up to RWF 200,000 at 20%, and everything above that at 30%. There is no separate personal allowance on top of the 0% band. The schedule comes from Law 027/2022 and has been in force since November 2023.

The employee pension contribution to the RSSB is 6% of gross pay with no ceiling. It rose from 3% in January 2025 under the pension reform and is scheduled to climb by a point a year from 2027, reaching 10% in 2030, and the 0.3% maternity contribution comes on top of it. Two charges are left out: medical insurance through RAMA at 7.5%, which covers public servants and employers who opt in rather than the standard private-sector case, and the 0.5% community health insurance (CBHI) charge on net pay. In practice your pension contribution comes off before PAYE is worked out; this calculator taxes gross pay, so the PAYE figure runs slightly high.

What this calculator leaves out

  • Monthly PAYE bands annualised (×12): 0% to RWF 60,000/month, 10% to 100,000, 20% to 200,000, 30% above (Law 027/2022 schedule, in force since Nov 2023)
  • RSSB pension: employee share rose from 3% to 6% in January 2025 under the pension reform; it is scheduled to rise by 1 point a year from 2027 to 10% in 2030 — 6% is the 2026 figure used here
  • RAMA / RSSB medical insurance (7.5% employee) covers public servants and opt-in employers and is not part of the standard private-sector case, so it is excluded; the 0.5% community health insurance (CBHI) charge on net pay is also excluded
  • In practice employee pension contributions are deductible before PAYE; this model taxes gross pay, which slightly overstates PAYE

FAQ

Rwanda tax — frequently asked questions

The bands give RWF 648,000 of PAYE: nothing on the first 720,000, 10% of the next 480,000 (RWF 48,000), 20% of the next 1,200,000 (RWF 240,000) and 30% of the remaining 1,200,000 (RWF 360,000). Contributions at 6.3% add RWF 226,800, which leaves take-home pay of RWF 2,725,200.
The employee share of the RSSB pension rose from 3% to 6% in January 2025 under the pension reform. It is due to rise by a point a year from 2027 and reach 10% in 2030, so the 6% used here is the 2026 figure.
Not in the standard private-sector case used here. RAMA medical insurance at 7.5% covers public servants and employers who opt in, and the 0.5% community health insurance charge is levied on net pay. Both are excluded from this calculator.
In a real payroll it does: employee pension contributions come off pay before PAYE is calculated. This calculator applies the bands to gross pay instead, so the tax it shows runs slightly higher than a payslip at the same salary.
