The system

How income tax works in Côte d'Ivoire

The salary tax reform merged three separate charges into one scale: the old salary tax, the national contribution and the general income tax (IGR), which used to be worked out with a family quotient and reached 60% at the top. The single scale now runs monthly at 0% up to XOF 75,000, 16% up to 240,000, 21% up to 800,000, 24% up to 2,400,000, 28% up to 8,000,000 and 32% above that, and the annual figures on this page are those bands multiplied by twelve. Older sources still showing the three-part system describe the pre-reform law.

The CNPS retirement contribution is 6.3% of salary, capped at XOF 3,375,000 a month (XOF 40,500,000 a year); family allowance and work injury contributions are paid by the employer only. One item is not modelled: the family-charge reduction (RICF) that replaced the old quotient. The standard case here is a single person with one share, whose reduction is minimal, so the results slightly overstate the tax for employees with dependants.

What this calculator leaves out

  • Modelled on the single salary tax (impôt sur les salaires) introduced by the salary tax reform, which merged the old salary tax, national contribution and general income tax into one scale: monthly bands annualised (×12) — 0% to XOF 75,000/month, 16% to 240,000, 21% to 800,000, 24% to 2,400,000, 28% to 8,000,000, 32% above
  • Older sources still showing the three-part system (1.5% salary tax + national contribution + IGR up to 60% with family quotient) describe the pre-reform law
  • The family-charge reduction (RICF) that replaced the quotient is not modelled; the standard case is a single person with 1 share, whose reduction is minimal, so results are a small overstatement for taxpayers with dependants
  • CNPS retirement contribution is 6.3% of salary, capped at XOF 3,375,000 a month (XOF 40,500,000 a year) per PwC; family allowances and work-injury contributions are employer-only

FAQ

Côte d'Ivoire tax — frequently asked questions

The reform combined the old salary tax (1.5%, charged on 80% of pay), the national contribution and the general income tax, which ran from 15% to 60% with a family quotient. They are now one scale running from 0% to 32%.
The 32% rate applies to income above XOF 8,000,000 a month, or XOF 96,000,000 a year. Only the income past that point is charged at 32%.
Employees pay 6.3% of salary into the CNPS retirement fund, on pay up to XOF 3,375,000 a month (XOF 40,500,000 a year). Family allowance and work injury contributions are employer-only.
Yes, but it works differently. The family-charge reduction (RICF) replaced the old quotient system. It is not modelled here; the standard case is a single person with one share, whose reduction is minimal, so tax for employees with dependants will come out slightly lower in practice.
