Enter a Ghanaian salary and this calculator applies the resident PAYE bands and the 5.5% employee SSNIT pension contribution. One timing point matters: the bands used here are those in the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2026 (Act 1178), which the GRA has applied from 1 September 2026. A different scale was in force from January to August 2026, and it is set out below so the change is clear.
Income tax and employee contributions, 2026 rates.

Under the Act 1178 scale, the first GH₵7,056 of annual chargeable income is taxed at 0%, then 5% to GH₵8,016, 10% to GH₵9,216, 17.5% to GH₵44,016, 25% to GH₵236,016, 30% to GH₵600,000 and 35% above that. Earlier in 2026 the previous scale applied instead: the first GH₵5,880 at 0% and the 35% band starting above GH₵605,000. If you are checking a payslip from before September 2026, it was worked out on that older scale, not this one.
Employees pay 5.5% of basic salary into SSNIT, up to maximum insurable earnings of GH₵69,000 a month in 2026 (GH₵828,000 a year). The calculator applies the contribution to gross pay rather than basic salary, which overstates it where allowances are a big part of the package. In law SSNIT is also deducted before PAYE is calculated; the calculator does not deduct it, so the tax shown runs slightly high. Personal reliefs for marriage, children, old age, disability and dependants are left out, as are voluntary Tier 3 contributions. Non-residents are taxed at a flat 25% and are not covered here.
