Arizona Salary Tax Guide 2026

Arizona taxes wages at a single flat rate of 2.5% on taxable income after the standard deduction (conforms to the federal amount) of $16,100. Federal income tax and FICA sit on top of the state layer, so the combined bill still rises in steps even though the state rate never changes. The ladder runs ten salaries from $25,000 to $300,000 through both layers.

Take-home pay at every salary level in Arizona

On a $75,000 salary the combined deductions in this model are $14,880: $7,670 of federal income tax, $1,473 of Arizona state tax and $5,738 of FICA, leaving take-home pay of $60,120 — an effective rate of 19.8%.

Reading the ladder

Where the rates change in Arizona

Read the ladder from the bottom up. The combined effective rate starts at 12.1% on $25,000 and reaches 30.6% on $300,000, with the Arizona state line taking $223 of the lowest rung and $7,098 of the highest. The state tax column is the only part of the bill that changes if the same salary is earned in a different state; the federal tax and FICA columns are identical on every state's ladder.

The state layer starts from taxable income — gross pay minus the standard deduction (conforms to the federal amount) of $16,100 — so the first $16,100 of pay carries no Arizona tax at all, and everything above it is charged at the single 2.5% rate. Two modelling points in the state file are worth knowing before you rely on a rung; they are listed under "What this guide leaves out" below.

Scope

What this guide leaves out

Arizona — state layer

  • Flat 2.5% rate on all taxable income, in force since tax year 2023
  • Arizona standard deduction is indexed to the federal standard deduction under ARS 43-1041, so it is $16,100 for a single filer in 2026 (the Tax Foundation 2026 table prints $8,350, which does not match the AZDOR Form 140 amounts; the AZDOR/statute figure is used here)
  • Arizona lets non-itemisers increase the standard deduction by a percentage of charitable contributions (34% for 2025); that uplift is not modelled

The federal layer is the standard United States model: a single employee, the federal standard deduction and no itemised deductions or personal credits. The full method is on the Methodology page.
