Fourteen salaries run through the resident scale for YA 2026, after the standard RM9,000 personal relief, together with the employee EPF contribution of 11% of wages. Only the standard relief is applied — the many other Malaysian reliefs are not modelled, so the tax column runs higher than a typical payslip.

Salary levels are the MYR equivalents of the US dollar amounts in the first column, converted at the reference rate snapshot of 28 October 2026 (1 USD = 4.08 MYR) and rounded to the nearest 500. The US$50,000 row is highlighted. On RM204,000 a year, take-home pay in Malaysia is RM148,410 — about RM12,368 a month — after RM33,150 in income tax and RM22,440 in social contributions. Figures model a single employee with standard allowances only.
The two deductions behave differently: income tax climbs in band steps (the 25% band covers a wide stretch of the ladder, and the marginal rate only reaches 28% near the top), while EPF is a flat 11% with no cap and simply grows with pay, reaching RM134,530 on the highest rung. Because only the RM9,000 self relief is in the model, the effective rate — 27.3% at RM204,000 and 31.6% at RM407,500 — is an upper bound for employees who claim the usual EPF, insurance and lifestyle reliefs.
